 Our Approach

The Job Forum approach is to focus on each individual's job search, one at a time, within the context of a group Forum. Our advice, counsel and brainstorming are adapted to your job search questions and your particular questions or need for helpful suggestions. In effect, we brainstorm on your behalf and coach you about your job search so that you can be more successful. All attendees are invited to discuss their own situation, offer helpful suggestions to others and ask questions in an open forum.

Topics often covered at the Job Forum

At the Job Forum, our interest is in counseling with respect to:

  • Planning your job-finding campaign. By "planning," we mean:
  • Researching yourself in terms of identifying your strengths, your weaknesses, your likes and dislikes, your preferences and non-preferences; the elements of a job which make you happy and those things which make you unhappy.
  • Establishing a specific, realistic job objective which is consistent with your background, personality and aspirations;
  • Researching your job market. We help you determine if the job exists in enough numbers in the locale where you wish to work. Does it cross industry lines or is it unique to one industry? Is it to be found in the private or the public sector, or both?
  • We coach you. Most people try to avoid planning because it is difficult, time consuming and requires self-analysis. However, we are convinced that planning will pay real dividends if handled properly so we coach you in how to "plan" in order to see real results.
  • Conducting the job-finding campaign. Most people find that this is far easier than the planning step (but they may waste time and effort if the planning has not been done well first). Conducting the job search includes:
    • Contacting people;
    • Preparation and use of Resumes;
    • Scheduling and following up on interviews;
    • Using the Internet;
    • Using and building your network;
    • The importance of attitude.
